In our final Sunday Service, we turn toward the visionary brilliance of Octavia E. Butler: speculative fiction writer, Afrofuturist oracle, and architect of imagined worlds rooted in transformation. Her Earthseed series taught us that “God is Change,” and that adaptation, vision, and community are our greatest tools in shaping the future.
This gathering invites us to close the year with reflection, ritual, and radical hope. Together, we’ll explore the power of imagining beyond the limits of the present—planting new seeds for the worlds we are building. With readings, grounding practices, and shared conversation, we’ll honor Butler’s legacy as a prophet of possibility and draw on her wisdom to guide us into a new chapter.
We’re also excited to host additional programming as we close out the year that centers around Octavia and ideas of home, belonging, and altars, beginning in October in partnership with Hozar Collective, through the first week of December with artist Elle Ivy Green, and a special post service screening with People’s Kitchen Collective.
Come rest, imagine, and remember:
“All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.”
