THIRD SUNDAY SERVICE : Zora Neale Hurston
The Soil of our Self
Led by Kamakshi Duvvuru
Hand in hand with 𝐙𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐍𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧, we’ll follow ourselves down to the root, re-language ourselves in the soil of our self, finding words for what already lives within us.
We turn toward what exists beyond any external gaze, and toward what is felt before it can be named. Drawing from Hurston’s writing, particularly Their Eyes Were Watching God, and the ways her character Janie comes to recognize her innermost desires, we move closer to the root of our own inner language.
What is the soil of our self, the most root and granular language of our inside? Shall we string and adorn ourselves with it—“gleam it around” on the outside?
Join us for this Third Sunday Service offering as we gather in reflection, inquiry, and shared space.

First Sunday Service
This First Sunday, we gather with Ifasina for a powerful exploration of Audre Lorde’s wisdom, where the erotic is not indulgence, but energy. Where caring for ourselves is not retreat, but resistance. Where poetry becomes a blueprint for how we live, love, and survive. Together, we’ll move, reflect, and root ourselves in the knowing that our deepest feelings are sources of power.
RESCHEDULED: February Sunday Service
Our February Sunday Service invites you into Stillness is Not Surrender, a gathering inspired by the spiritual jazz legacy of Alice Coltrane. Together, we’ll explore sound as prayer, vibration as devotion, and improvisation as a pathway to freedom. Come ready to listen deeply, feel fully, and experience music as a sacred, collective practice.

Sunday Service: Octavia Butler
In our final Sunday Service, we turn toward the visionary brilliance of Octavia E. Butler: speculative fiction writer, Afrofuturist oracle, and architect of imagined worlds rooted in transformation. Her Earthseed series taught us that “God is Change,” and that adaptation, vision, and community are our greatest tools in shaping the future.
This gathering invites us to close the year with reflection, ritual, and radical hope. Together, we’ll explore the power of imagining beyond the limits of the present—planting new seeds for the worlds we are building. With readings, grounding practices, and shared conversation, we’ll honor Butler’s legacy as a prophet of possibility and draw on her wisdom to guide us into a new chapter.
Come rest, imagine, and remember:
“All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.”

Sunday Service: Pauli Murray
This month, Sunday Service honors the life, legacy, and living wisdom of Reverend Dr. Pauli Murray: poet, priest, lawyer, and architect of liberation. In collaboration with the Pauli Murray Center, we invite you into a sacred reflection on Murray’s lifelong commitment to justice, and their powerful refusal to be defined by the constraints of the world they inherited.
Born in Durham, Pauli Murray spent a lifetime challenging the systems that sought to erase them. From pioneering legal strategies that laid the groundwork for civil rights victories to becoming the first Black person assigned female at birth to be ordained in the Episcopal Church, Murray’s journey is one of prophetic courage, complexity, and devotion to truth.
Together, we will explore the theme of naming - how we name ourselves, our struggles, and the futures we long for. Through storytelling, spiritual grounding, and collective honoring, we will trace the ripple effects of Pauli’s work and reflect on how we too can be visionaries of a freer world.
Join us in lifting up a hometown ancestor whose life continues to shape what is possible.

Fusion and Refusal: a poetic response
The community is invited to reflect on the concepts, connections, and questions that are part of the dif/FUSION installation. The artist will perform their own poetry and welcomes participants to share a poem that engages with the artwork, of one page or less. As an extension of the dif/FUSION experience, this event encourages responses that may celebrate humanity’s woven histories and resilient traditions, while also examining the bounds of narrative and forces of power that would deny humanity’s right to dissidence and dynamism.
